Date new versions published                                                          August 2009

Planned review date                                                                           December 2014

Summary of review and consultation process

Consultation with the industry sector led the SSB to determine that there was a need to reconfigure the Adventure Tourism standards to reflect the current provision of adventure activities in the tourism sector, with emphasis on tourism experiences and health and safety.  Skills Active Aotearoa Limited and adventure activity providers were involved in an advisory group, which met in August 2008.  Credits of some standards were changed to reflect the amount of work for training and assessment.  The standards were reviewed and the new versions were circulated and consensus obtained.

Main changes resulting from the review

·      Titles and credits were amended to reflect changes in focus and clarify the time required to achieve them.

·      Elements and performance criteria were amended in some standards for clarity.

·      Standards 19424 and 19427 were designated expiring as they were no longer required by the industry.

·      Standard 12409 was replaced by new standard 25988.

·      A new standard was developed to cover the skill of planning adventure tourism activities.

Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2011.
