Revision of Applied Journalism qualification
National Diploma in Applied Journalism (Print) (Level 6) [Ref: 1485]
The Communications and Media Industry Training Organisation (CMITO) has revised the qualification listed above.
Date new version published August 2009
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2013.
Reason for the revision
This qualification was revised as a result of further unit standards being registered in the Applied Journalism domain. The inclusion of two elective sections has provided flexibility for journalists employed in areas of journalism other than print to achieve recognition in their particular area.
Main changes resulting from the revision
To ensure flexibility within the qualification several unit standards have been removed from the compulsory section and two elective sections have been included.
Changes to structure and content
· Title was changed to remove the descriptor 'print', as the qualification now recognises other aspects of journalism, including broadcast radio and television.
· Two electives were added.
· Standards 25361, 25362, 25365 and 25369 were removed from the compulsory section. These standards were included in the Journalism elective.
Transition
Version 2 was issued to allow candidates to choose from a range of newly developed standards that have been registered in the Applied Journalism domain.
All new trainees will be enrolled in training programmes leading to version 2 of the qualification. People currently enrolled in training programmes leading to version 1 may either complete that version or transfer to version 2.
It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. Any person who feels disadvantaged by these provisions is invited to contact CMITO at the address below.
