Revision of Electricity Supply qualifications

 

National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Level 2) with optional strands in Electrical, Electrical Fitter, and Line Mechanic [Ref: 1293]

National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Distribution) (Level 3) [Ref: 1369]

 

The Electricity Supply Industry Training Organisation (ESITO) has revised the qualifications listed above.

 

Date new versions published                                                          August 2009

 

The next qualification reviews are planned to take place during 2011 for the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Level 2) with optional strands in Electrical, Electrical Fitter, and Line Mechanic [Ref: 1293], and during 2012 for the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Distribution) (Level 3) [Ref: 1369].

 

Reason for the revision

 

These qualifications were revised to better align them with the competencies required for registration as a line mechanic and to improve qualification completion rates.

 

Main changes resulting from the revision

 

Standards not required for registration as a line mechanic were removed from the Line Mechanic Optional Strand of Ref: 1293 and the Compulsory section of Ref: 1369.

Changes to structure and content

·         Standard 20877 was removed from the Line Mechanic Optional Strand.

 

Transition

 

All existing candidates may either complete the requirements of version 3 of the qualification or transfer to version 4.  The last date for assessments to take place for version 3 is December 2012.

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to version 4 of the qualification.

 

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards – see table below.

Changes to structure and content

·         the total credit value decreased from 64 to 51

·         standards 17976, 17977, and 17978 were removed from the Compulsory section but included as optional standards

·         standard 20877 was included as an optional standard

·         details of reviewed standards 6916 and 6917 were updated.

 

Transition
