National Qualifications Services (NQS) has completed the review of the qualifications and unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          August 2009

Summary of review and consultation process

During the scoping of NQS owned qualifications and unit standards, it was identified that qualifications and unit standards at level four and above within all the domains in the subfield Visual Arts (with the exception of domains Arts History and Practical Art) had low or no usage.

A recommendation was made to the New Zealand Qualifications (NZQA) Board, that following consultation with the sector, these qualifications and unit standards should be expired.

A number of unit standards below level four were also included in this review and will also be expired.  The option of transferring them to domain Practical Art was considered; however, this would lead to duplication with level 1-3 Visual Arts achievement standards.

NQS identified that a small group of unit standards were contained in the Southern Institute of Technologies (SIT) Certificate in Applied Arts.  SIT were consulted regarding endorsement for the expiry of these unit standards and the options available following expiry.  SIT agreed with a three year transition period for these unit standards.

All other accredited providers were sent letters signalling the expiry of these unit standards and qualifications and suggesting a transition through to December 2012.  The Retail ITO was advised of the impact of this review on their qualification.
