The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation (Agriculture ITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          August 2009

Planned review date                                                                           December 2014

Summary of review and consultation process

The unit standards were reviewed because they had reached their planned review date.

Consultation meetings were held with wool harvesting representatives during July 2008 in the following centres – Blenheim, Christchurch, Napier, Te Kuiti, and Palmerston North.  Representatives were given the opportunity to discuss qualifications in the Shearing and Wool Handling domains and offer any feedback on the currency and suitability of their content.

A review panel made up of key industry representatives and Agriculture ITO field staff from each of the wool handling and shearing sectors was then formed, and meetings were convened.  Off-job providers were included in this process and their feedback also formed part of the review.  Initial discussions focused on the current status of the industry sector, any changes which had occurred since the last review which impacted on training, and the future direction of the industry.

Roleholders and associated skills and knowledge were identified for each industry sector.  The information collected was compared with existing unit standards and changes made in consultation with industry representatives.  A new unit standard was written where a gap existed.

Feedback received since the last review was also considered by the review panel and where this was considered valid, was included in the review process.

Final drafts were placed on the Agriculture ITO website and all stakeholders were notified of the opportunity to provide feedback.  Stakeholders consisted of shearing contractors, industry sector organisations, training providers, and other ITOs.

Feedback was considered by the review panel, and unit standards were updated.  Unit standards were endorsed by the Agriculture Industry Committee prior to submission to NZQA for evaluation and registration.
