Date new versions published                                                          December 2009

Planned review date                                                                           December 2014

Summary of review and consultation process

The unit standards were due for review in 2009.  Due to the sectors within the vessel operations sector, five advisory groups were set up to review the unit standards.  The advisory groups were comprised of industry experts, assessors, training provider representatives, and other relevant stakeholders.

In August 2009, review meetings were held to ensure the unit standards still met the requirements of the respective sectors, and to ensure they were clear, logical and fit for purpose.  These unit standards were presented to the sectors for wider consultation and review and the final versions were endorsed.

Main changes resulting from the review

·      Unit standard 16558 has been designated category D as there has been no usage since it was registered.  Unit standard 19847 was deemed more appropriate and also contained similar content to unit standard 16558.

·      The level for unit standard 22748 has been raised from 3 to 4 to better reflect the knowledge and expertise required to demonstrate competence for this unit standard.

·      Amendments and/or additions have been made to special notes, elements, performance criteria and range statements to better clarify outcomes and evidence requirements.

The unit standard categorised as category D will expire at the end of December 2011.
