Review of Tourism qualification

The Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualification above.
Date new version published February 2009
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.
Summary of review and consultation process
The Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation received feedback from industry experts that the qualification and the standards comprising it were no longer fit for purpose. Furthermore, some standards within the qualification had expired. As a result an Industry Advisory Group was formed from representatives of the horse trek industry, the equine training organisation, and the sport and fitness industry, which met in May 2008. Drafts of the qualification were circulated to the group and the qualification was then finalised with their endorsement.
Main changes resulting from the review
The qualification was reviewed owing to the expiry of some standards.

Changes to structure and content
· Levels, credits and titles of standards were updated to match changes made at review
· The National Certificate in Equine (Introductory Skills) (Level 2) [Ref: 0215] or recognition of equivalent skills and knowledge was made a prerequisite for entry.
· Standard 6611 was added to the Core Compulsory section.
· Standards 19426, 20159- 20161, and 23758-23760 replaced standards 435, 436, 17755, 18210, 18223 and 18224, which are expiring.
· Standard 17747 was included in the Core Elective section as an option for those intending to manage a Horse Trek Guiding operation.
· Standards 1624, 1648, 1650, 1654, 1618, 6401, 6402, 6579, 6612, 6619, 6622, and 13377 were removed from the qualification.
· Standards 424 and 451 were retained in the Core Elective section to cover emergency care and the management of risk respectively.
· Standard 6400 was transferred form the Core Compulsory to the Core Elective and standard 20146 was added to the Core Elective section to provide prerequisites for standards 424 and 451 respectively.
· Total credits reduced from 78 to 73 and level added to title.
Transition
People currently working towards version 1 of the qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to version 2 of the qualification. The final date for assessments to take place for version 1 is 31 December 2011.
This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purpose of the qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standard.
