National Qualifications Services of NZQA has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published July 2009
Planned review date December 2014
Summary of review and consultation process
Business Law standards were reviewed in line with the five-year review cycle and the classification changes within field Business. The standards had had moderate use from 2000-2007 with 11,075 results reported for the domain between 1 January 2000 and 1 June 2007. Demand for the standards was ongoing with many providers using them in both business and tourism related courses.
A panel, comprising representatives from training providers and the legal sector, was convened to review these standards in November 2007. The panel found that the standards were, in general, fit for purpose; the primary changes needed were the amendment of credit values to better reflect learning demands and updating of references to legislation. Stakeholders endorsed the proposed changes to the Business Law standards and their move to the newly created domain of the same name in subfield Business Environment.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Business Law standards were moved from the Management subfield to the new Business Law domain in the Business Environment subfield.
· Special notes, elements, performance criteria and range statements were updated to ensure they remain relevant to current industry needs.
· Standard 11632 was recommended for expiry due to duplication with Legal Studies Unit 10338, Describe and compare methods of dispute resolution in the legal system.
· Prerequisites were removed from standards 11633 and 11635.
· Credit values for standards 11633-11639 were increased.
· Titles for standards 11636 and 11639 were changed to ensure they accurately reflected the required outcomes.
The unit standard categorised as category D will expire at the end of December 2011.
