Planned review date                                                        December 2012 (unchanged)

Summary of review and consultation process

The review of Legal Studies standards was carried out over 2006 and 2007, with the majority of standards being registered in December 2007.

During the review process issues of duplication between two standards in this application and two other NQS standards at the same level were identified.  Unit 8555, Describe the objectives and application of consumer law, and Unit 10338, Describe and compare methods of dispute resolution in the legal system; overlapped with Unit 6674, Examine consumer protection in New Zealand, and Unit 8553, Demonstrate a Disputes Tribunal presentation respectively.

These duplicate standards were added to the review alongside the Legal Studies standards.  It was then decided that these standards be designated expiring, allowing the reviewed Legal Studies standards to be re-registered.

Main changes resulting from the review

·         Legislation and references to legal entities were updated.

·         Credit was increased for standard 10338 to more accurately reflect the time needed for learning and assessment.

·         Title of standard 8555 was amended to more accurately reflect the outcome.

Unit standards categorised as category D expire at the end of December 2012.
