Summary of review and consultation process

Generic Education and Training unit standards in the Open and Distance Learning domain were due to be reviewed in December 2005.

Notice of this review was sent to sector stakeholders and feedback sought.  A panel was established to review the unit standards.  The panel included the national moderator and representatives from Private Training Establishments and Tertiary Education Organisations who had reported achievement against the standards.

The panel made a recommendation for a new domain name and reviewed the standards.  Recommended changes to unit standards and the domain name were sent out for wider consultation and endorsement by the sector.

Main changes resulting from the review

·        A new domain, 'Open, Flexible, and Networked Learning' has been created to reflect changing terminology and technologies.  The standards have been moved into the new domain and the 'Open and Distance Learning' domain has been designated 'expired'.

·        Standards 10473, 10474, and 10476 have been designated as category C and replaced by 25779, 25780, and 25781 respectively.

·        Special notes have been altered to reflect domain name change.

·        Special notes and ranges have been amended to clarify specific terms and concepts, contexts and conditions for assessment.

·        Titles, elements, performance criteria and ranges have been amended for greater consistency.

·        Credits have been adjusted to reflect more accurately the time requirements in light of actual experience and/or to reflect the changes made at this review.

·        Vocabulary and grammar have been changed in elements and performance criteria to clarify meaning, intent and requirements.

·        Standard 10475 has been designated expiring and will not be replaced as there has been very low usage.

·        The level of standard 10472 has been increased from 3 to 4 to reflect the processes, learning demand and responsibility involved.

Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2011.
