National Certificate in Floristry (Level 2) [Ref: 1150]

National Certificate in Floristry (Level 4) with an optional advanced strand [Ref: 1151]

The New Zealand Horticulture Industry Training Organisation (NZHITO) has completed the review of the qualifications listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          July 2009

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.

Summary of review and consultation process

These two floristry qualifications were due for their first major review, following registration in 2005.  NZHITO, in conjunction with the Floristry industry advisory group and consultation with providers, reviewed these qualifications.  The main purpose of the review was to determine if the qualifications met current industry requirements.

Main changes resulting from the review

The review resulted in the removal of some compulsory requirements of the qualifications, which for most apprentices have proven difficult to complete, particularly the floriculture component in the florists' workplace.  If appropriate the Floriculture and First Aid standards can now be selected as part of the elective component of the qualifications.  The elective component also now provides TEOs and employers with the opportunity to customise part of the qualification to suit their particular needs.

Candidates who are currently enrolled in versions 1 or 2 of the qualifications may either complete the requirements of that version or transfer their results to version 3 of the qualifications.  The last date for assessments to take place for versions 1 or 2 of both qualifications is December 2012.
