The Apparel and Textile Industry Training Organisation (ATITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published June 2009
Planned review date December 2015
Summary of review and consultation process
Meetings involving ATITO, representatives of the Clothing Sector and Training Providers were held in four locations throughout the country to undertake a review of the unit standards and qualifications in the Clothing Manufacture domain.
The groups were asked to consider the following:
· Feedback which had been received from moderation and Training Advisor feedback.
· The appropriateness of the qualifications and unit standards for the clothing industry of the future.
· The currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and future qualifications.
· The appropriateness of unit standards to their domain.
· The accuracy and appropriateness or their content.
· Whether levels and credits were commensurate with performance outcomes and training needs.
· Any gaps in skills and/or knowledge that could be captured by the development of new unit standards.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Purpose statements were altered to make them consistent and ensure they adequately expressed the content of the unit standard.
· Definitions were added to the special notes and terminology was standardised across unit standards.
· Special notes were amended to update references to legislation and remove the reference to BSI standards which are no longer used by industry.
· Range statements were modified to clarify evidence requirements.
· Unit standard 5294 was designated as expiring and unit standard 17821 was suggested as an alternative as they both had very similar content.
· Unit standards 2740, 2749, 2842, 2845, 2864, 5294, and 5311 were designated as expiring as they were no longer fit for purpose.
· Unit standards 2623, 2625, 2626, and 2628 were reclassified to the Apparel Cutting and Sewing Domain and the references to leather were removed from the titles, special notes, elements and range statements.
· Unit standard 2834 was reclassified to the Apparel Cutting and Sewing Domain.
· The credit value for unit standard 2840 was increased to 5 credits.
· The level of unit standard 22302 was increased from 2 to 3 and the credit value was increased from 4 to 6.
· Unit standards 2739 and 17822 were similar and often difficult to interpret for industry. To address this one element was removed from 17822 and its credit value reduced from 10 to 6 credits. This removes the similarity and makes them more assessable.
· The wording of unit standards 25239 and 2834 has been changed so that the differences between the unit standards are more apparent.
· Six new unit standards were developed to meet industry needs.
Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2010.
