Summary of review and consultation process

An Advisory Group meeting of industry and provider representatives was held in November 2008 to look at the requirements for the decorative glass sector.  As part of this project four of the Flat Glass standards were examined, as they are specific to this sector.  Examination of these standards revealed they were undervalued in both levels and credits for the work required, as well as needing amendment to be brought up to current technical specifications.  One of the standards needed to be split into three new standards; entry requirements were removed from all the reviewed standards as health and safety requirements have been included in the content of the reviewed standards; and gaps in coverage of industry skills and/or knowledge were identified, so four new standards were developed.  Amendments were also made to the existing standards and the changes endorsed in March 2009.

Main changes resulting from the review

·      Elements, performance criteria and special notes have been updated and/or reworded for clarity.

·      Entry requirements have been deleted.

·      Titles of standards 2050 and 2051 have been updated and credit values have increased from 5 to 20.

·      Standard 2055 has been replaced by three new standards 25775-25777.

·      The level of standard 2056 has increased from 3 to 4 and its credit value has increased from 3 to 10.

·      Four new standards 25771-25774 have been developed.

Unit standard 2055 categorised as category C will expire at the end of December 2010.
