Review of Airport Operations qualification

National Certificate in Airport Operations with strands in Airport Customer Service, Airport Maintenance, and Airport Safety [Ref: 0339]

The Aviation, Tourism and Travel Organisation has completed the review of the qualification listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          June 2009

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.

Summary of review and consultation process

The qualification was reviewed following the review of the related standards to take account of changes made.  The content of the Airport Customer Services strand in particular was seen to be in need of reform.  A group of representatives from the industry, military airfields, and the Civil Aviation Authority was convened.  The group endorsed the structure of the reviewed qualification.

Main changes resulting from the review

Tourism industry standards were added to the core compulsory section, and other standards were added to strands to match the skills required by role holders and to replace expiring standards or provide a wider range of choice.  All candidates now have the same minimum credit requirement, and the level for all the strands is now 4.
