Summary of review and revision, and consultation process

As a result of the recent and ongoing qualification review, HITO's Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) identified the need for new unit standards covering the skills and knowledge that workers require within any salon environment.  The QAC is made up of representatives from industry, providers, employers and employees, and considers feedback from all areas of the sector as well as from the National Moderator.

Through the QAC, stakeholders were given the opportunity to contribute to the review, revision and development of the unit standards at different stages throughout the process.

A new Salon Skills domain has been added to the Beauty Services subfield.  As well as the new unit standards, the QAC identified that unit standards 2758 and 20929 fit within this new domain.

The review process considered the following in relation to unit standard 20929:

·      the currency of the unit standard and its suitability for existing and future qualifications

·      the accuracy and appropriateness of its content

·      whether levels and credits were commensurate with performance outcomes and training needs.

Main changes resulting from the review and revision

·      Unit standards 2758 and 20929 have moved from the Hairdressing domain to the new Salon Skills domain.

·      Changes have been made to special notes, range statements, and definitions in unit standard 20929 to ensure they are up to date, and that they reflect the requirements of industry.

·      Elements and performance criteria in unit standard 20929 have been amended to reflect the specific skills required, to improve clarity, and for consistency of style throughout the application.

·      The credits for unit standard 20929 have been increased from 5 to 6.
