Summary of review and consultation process

The Joinery Advisory Group met on the 7-8th February 2008 to look at the joinery standards and consider the feedback generated through the assessment and moderation process.  The feedback process identified seven current standards that were no longer fit for purpose and that would be designated as expiring.  Areas where there were gaps were also identified and five new standards were developed.  Changes to the standards were identified and endorsed in May after the amended standards had been circulated to all stakeholders for comment.

Main changes resulting from the review

·           Changes in domain from Laminate Fabrication to Joinery Machining and Cabinetry, and Core Construction to Stairs and Other Joinery Trade Skills.

·           Changes to titles, levels and credits.

·           Changes to elements, performance criteria and ranges for clarity and consistency.

·           Changes to special notes.

·           Seven standards have been designated as expiring.  These are 8605, 8611, 8612, 8613, and 17124 in the Joinery Machinery domain, and 2534 and 15755 in the Stairs and Other Joinery Trade Skills domain.

·           Five new standards have been developed, three of which are in the Joinery Machining domain, one in the Stairs and Other Joinery Trade Skills domain, and one in the Cabinetry domain.

Unit standards categorised as category D expire at the end of December 2010.
