The Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) has reviewed the unit standard listed above.
Date new versions published May 2009
Planned review date December 2014
Summary of review and consultation process
FITEC and representatives from log scaling companies have undertaken a review of the log scaling qualification and have made changes to unit standard 1142.
Feedback on this unit standard was gathered during a recent advisory group process used to review the unit standards in the National Diploma in Forestry (Forest Management) (Level 6) [Ref: 0232] and also during a meeting of industry representatives from Log Scaling businesses. This unit standard is compulsory for the National Certificate in Forestry (Log Scaling) Level 4) [Ref: 1211].
Feedback indicated that the time taken to meet the outcomes and performance requirements of the unit standard to the depth required was longer than that represented by the credit value of the unit standard.
Main changes resulting from the review
· The number of credits allocated to this unit standard has increased from four to five.
· The special notes have been standardised in accordance with FITEC's Unit Standard Writing Guide.
· A special note has been added to include reference to a new Log Transport Safety Council Industry Standard.
· Wording in the unit standard has been amended to clarify the outcomes and evidence requirements.
· The unit standard has been reclassified in the Forest Operations Advanced domain.
