Revision of Timber Machining qualification

 

National Certificate in Timber Machining (Level 4) [Ref: 0813]

 

The Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) has revised the qualification listed above.

 

Date new versions published                                                          May 2009

 

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.

 

Reason for the revision

 

This qualification has been revised to update the level of a standard following the review of wood manufacturing foundation skills standards.

 

Main change resulting from the revision

 

Level of standard 17862 updated (from 2 to 3).

 

Transition

 

People currently working towards versions 1, 2, or 3 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version by 31 December 2011, or transfer their results to version 4.  The last date for entry to training programmes or courses for version 3 is December 2009.

 

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards - see table below.

It is anticipated that no existing trainees will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.  Any person who feels they have been disadvantaged by these transition arrangements should contact FITEC who will consider appeals on a case-by-case basis.
