The Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) has completed the review of the qualifications listed above.
Date new versions published November 2009
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.
Summary of review and consultation process
This review was prompted by the review of standards in the Furniture Making domain, and by feedback from providers and industry representatives after the first year of using these qualifications. The results of consultation with the Built Environment Training Alliance (BETA) group of Industry Training Organisations and providers were compiled into a report which suggested changes to these qualifications. The report was endorsed by the BETA group in June 2009.
Main changes resulting from the review
Specific standards relating to English and/or Mathematics were removed from both qualifications. The option to choose standards from the English Written Language domain has been added to both qualifications. The Level 1 qualification also allows candidates to choose standards from the Mathematics subfield. Standards from the Furniture Making domain which were no longer considered appropriate were removed from both qualifications. New standards covering hardware and fastenings, and joints, were added to the Level 1 qualification, and a new standard covering the construction of a cupboard was added to both qualifications. Sixteen new standards from the Building, Construction, and Allied Trades Skills domain, which cover industry knowledge, were added as an elective set to the Level 2 qualification.
