Review of Hospitality qualification

National Certificate in Hospitality (Foundation Skills) [Ref: 0587]

The Hospitality Standards Institute has completed the review of the qualification listed above.

Date new version published                                                             November 2009

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.

Summary of review and consultation process

The Advisory Group representing the stakeholders for this qualification met on 15 May 2009 to consider whether the qualification was still fit for purpose.  The qualification had a relatively low uptake because its structure did not enable candidates to complete the qualification while at school.  Standards 57, 62 and 64 were therefore removed because these standards required assessment in the workplace and the qualification had been developed for schools.  The structure of the qualification was also amended to meet the target audience requirements and was endorsed as fit for purpose by the Advisory Group in June.

Transition

People currently working towards version 2 or 3 of this qualification may either complete the requirements of those versions or transfer to the latest version.  However, it is recommended that all candidates enrolled in programmes leading to an earlier version of the qualification transfer to version 4.  The last date for assessments to take place for version 2 is December 2010.  The last date for assessments to take place for version 3 is December 2011.
