The Ministry of Education and the Secondary Assessment and Liaison business unit of NZQA have revised the achievement standards listed above.

Reason for the revision
Both standards are externally assessed and have two achievement criteria. This has made both writing and sitting the examination very difficult. Writers have to produce examinations which are longer than they need be and have more than one part to them, making many hoops for students to ‘jump through'. This has also made it difficult for the markers to make a holistic judgement across the whole standard.
Main changes resulting from the revision
In each standard:
· the two achievement criteria have been rewritten into a single criterion
· the title has been amended to be consistent with the criterion
· some explanatory notes have been amended in line with changes to the criteria.
