Summary of review and consultation process

This review took place as part of the scheduled review cycle and also to transfer concrete industry unit standards from the Construction Trades subfield to the Concrete subfield, and to new, sector-specific domains within that subfield, as part of a review of the entire suite of BCITO concrete industry qualifications. Consultation with representatives from eight sectors within the concrete industry took place from January 2008, consisting of industry working party meetings to identify relevant skill sets for each sector. This review addresses the areas where skills are required by more than one sector of the industry, and unit standards will be used in more than one qualification. It includes 10 unit standards previously registered in the Concrete Construction and Concrete Production domains, and 19 new unit standards to be registered in the new domains within the Concrete subfield.

This review is part of an ongoing process aimed to be completed by mid-2010, in which all concrete industry unit standards within the Construction Trades subfield will be moved to the Concrete subfield, and all concrete industry qualifications will be reviewed and reclassified.

Main changes resulting from the review

· Unit standards from the Construction Trades subfield have been reclassified in the Concrete subfield.

· Unit standards 12017, 12024, and 12029 have been reclassified in the Precast Concrete domain.

· The title of unit standard 12017 has changed to reflect skills covered, and the word ‘pre-cast' has been dehyphenated in unit standards 12017, 12024, and 12029 to reflect industry practice.

· The level of unit standard 12024 has increased from 2 to 3, and the credits have increased from 12 to 15.

· Changes have been made to special notes, elements, and performance criteria in unit standards 12017, 12024, and 12029 to better reflect the needs of industry.

· Unit standards 12023, 12033, 12034, and 12019 have been replaced by unit standards 26050, 26051, 26052, and 26053 in the Concrete Core Skills domain.

· Unit standard 12025 has been replaced by unit standard 26048 in the Concrete Construction domain.

· Unit standard 12028 has been replaced by unit standard 26070 in the Precast Concrete domain.

· Unit standard 12015 has been replaced by unit standard 26069 in the Concrete Product Manufacture domain.

· One new unit standard, 26049, has been developed for registration in the Concrete Construction domain.

· Ten new unit standards, 26054-26063, have been developed for registration in the Concrete Core Skills domain.

· Five new unit standards, 26064-26068 have been developed for registration in the Concrete Product Manufacture domain.

· Three new unit standards, 26071-26073 have been developed for registration in the Precast Concrete domain.

Unit standards categorised as category C will expire at the end of December 2011.
