Review of Meat Inspection Services qualification

The New Zealand Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualification listed above.

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2015.
Summary of review and consultation process
This review took place in response to the review and reclassification of the meat inspection services and meat inspection species specific standards and the need to standardise animal product examination qualifications across all species. Feedback from AsureQuality, the Poultry Industry Association of New Zealand, key stakeholders and the New Zealand Food Safety Authority indicated that changes were needed to the qualification to meet the need of being fit for purpose in today's meat processing environment.
Main changes resulting from the review
This review has resulted in minor changes to the qualification title and content. Standards that have been identified as generic components of the qualification have been moved from the elective to the compulsory section.
Standards that are no longer considered relevant to the outcome of this qualification have been removed and new standards that recognise specific workplace knowledge and skills have been added.

Changes to structure and content
· Standards 167, 168, 497, and 20235 removed from the qualification
· Standard 22050 moved from compulsory to elective section
· Standard 22047 moved to compulsory section
· Standards 13489 and 18855 added to compulsory section
· Elective section requirements changed to a minimum of 22 credits at Level 3 or above from Electives A and B with a minimum of 8 credits from Elective A
· Elective B extended to include Occupational Health and Safety and Communication Skills subfields and Food Production - Poultry Products, Meat Industry Generic, and Food Safety domains
· Title updated to reflect the new subfield Animal Product Examination Services that was registered in 2008
· Overall credit total decreased from 48 to 40.
Transition
People currently working towards version 1 of this qualification may either complete that version or transfer their results to version 2. The last date for entry to programmes or courses leading to version 1 is 30 June 2010.
The last date for assessments to take place for version 1 is 31 December 2011.
It is not intended that anyone is disadvantaged by this review, and the above arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition. However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged may appeal to:
