NZQA Māori Qualifications Service (MQS) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published August 2010
Planned review date December 2015
Summary
Following a series of meetings in May, June, and November 2006 the NZQA Māori Qualifications Services - Hauora Whakaruruhau decided, due to the credit increase of the Te Reo standards, that the National Certificate in Hauora (Māori Health) (Level 4) [Ref: 0710] and the National Diploma in Hauora (Māori Health) (Level 5) [Ref: 0711] would be reviewed with the intention of making them more equitable and attainable. This meant the standards also required a review.
Following wider consultation, the Whakaruruhau agreed that all hauora standards would be included in the qualifications and would need to be reviewed for consistency and usage. A contractor was brought in to help review the standards and to develop new versions of them.
However, after viewing those new versions, the Whakaruruhau felt the original intent of the standards had been lost. The Whakaruruhau reverted back to the registered version and have reviewed them to ensure they are not only fit for purpose, but maintain their original intent and relevance. The Whakaruruhau has taken an active role throughout this extended review process.
The qualifications will be reviewed once these unit standards are listed on the Directory of Assessment Standards.
Main changes
The following changes were made:
· Titles and purpose statements were amended to more accurately and clearly reflect intended content.
· Special notes were updated to better convey assessment parameters, including clearer definitions, updated references to legislation, and clarification of the breadth and depth of evidence required to demonstrate competence.
· Elements, performance criteria, and range statements were amended to improve clarity and consistency of assessment.
· Levels for unit standards 15309, 15311 and 15313 were increased to more accurately reflect the complexity of competencies.
· Credits for unit standards 15307, 15310, 15317 and 18560 were increased, and credits for unit standards 18561-18566 were decreased, to more accurately reflect the time taken for delivery, learning, and assessment.
The unit standards covered by this report have been published in the new format.
