National Certificate in Meat Processing (Grading) with strands in Beef; Pig Meat; Sheep and Lamb; and Venison [Ref: 0691]
National Certificate in Meat Processing (Wool Estimation) [Ref: 0696]
The New Zealand Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualifications listed above.
Date new versions published August 2010
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2015.
Summary of review and consultation process
The Meat Processing Advisory Group, comprised of industry representatives and providers, reviewed the qualifications listed above in December 2009. From feedback provided by both assessors and moderators it was decided to streamline the two qualifications to remove both the generic and drafting standards from the National Certificate in Meat Processing (Wool Estimation) [Ref: 0696], and the generic skills from the National Certificate in Meat Processing (Grading) [Ref: 0691], as the industry wanted to emphasise the grading rather than generic skills. Most meat industry employees complete the National Certificate in Meat Processing (Introductory) with an optional strand in Workplace Safety and Health [Ref: 0932] which includes the generic skills, and people employed in the wool estimation role are not involved in drafting the animals.
Changes were made to both these qualifications and were endorsed by the Advisory Group in January 2010.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Decrease in credit totals for both qualifications by the removal of the generic standards.
· Addition of industry specific standards.
