NZQA Māori Qualifications Services (MQS) has completed the review of the standards listed above.

Summary
The standards have been reviewed as part of the MQS review compliance cycle, to ensure that the standards are fit for purpose and the outcomes are achievable, manageable, coherent, assessable and consistent with valid assessment practices.
The Whakaruruhau Reo Māori met in September 2008, November 2008, April 2009 and September 2009. The Whakaruruhau considered feedback from the secondary sector, tertiary education institutes, private training establishments, and whare wānanga in finalising the standards. There were a number of identified issues with the reviewed standards and these were addressed within the consultation process.
The Whakaruruhau and consultation network included representation from across the secondary, tertiary, and whare wānanga education sectors. Consultation with internal and external stakeholders raised no objections to the outcomes of this review.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Special notes were added to all of the levels 1-4 standards to identify the 'learner profile.'
· Special notes were added to all standards to ensure learning and assessment did not happen out of context and that the mana motuhake of dialectal variance (reo ā-whānau, ā-hapū, ā-iwi, ā-hapori hoki) was maintained.
· Credit values of some standards were decreased or increased to align with performance criteria amendments and to better reflect the actual time taken for learning and assessment.
· Titles, and elements and performance criteria of some standards were amended to better reflect the main outcomes recognised by the standard, and to improve the clarity of evidence requirements.
· Grammatical features in the standards were amended for consistency of language, and for the purposes of usability and readability.
The unit standards covered by this report have been published in the new format.
