Summary of review and consultation process

The qualifications were reviewed as they had reached their review date, and feedback from industry and moderators had indicated that changes were required to meet industry needs.

Equestrian Coaching Qualifications [Ref: 0655] and [Ref: 0656]

The review process commenced in February 2009 when a meeting was convened with all stakeholders, including equestrian coaches, training, equestrian coaching moderators, Skills Active, Equestrian Sports NZ, the NZ Pony Clubs Association, and the NZ Riding for the Disabled.  The aim of the meeting was to determine if there was a need to continue to provide equestrian coaching training.  Following extensive discussion, agreement was reached to continue to provide equestrian coaching training, but changes were required to the registered qualifications to meet industry needs.  Representatives from the above stakeholder organisations were nominated to become the Equestrian Coaching Review Panel.

The updated qualifications were circulated to all stakeholders including accredited training providers, equestrian coaches, and organisations associated with equestrian coaching for their feedback.  The qualifications were endorsed by the Equine ITO Board in March 2010.

NZ Riding for the Disabled Coaches Qualification [Ref: 0715]

The NZRDA coaching qualification review commenced in November 2008 when the national training team and moderators met to review the qualifications and discuss changes that had occurred in the industry since the last review.

A decision was made to split the qualification to reflect the two tier training (Assistant Coach progressing to Coach), and to add new standards to reflect the additional skills required of coaches.  The amended qualification structure was circulated to RDA coaches for their feedback during 2008.

In February 2009 the national training team and moderators met again and reviewed the feedback, and amended structure and content of the qualifications.  As a result of feedback, additional communications skills were identified for the Assistant Coach qualification.

Final versions of qualifications were endorsed by the NZRDA Board in June 2010.

Main changes resulting from the review

Qualifications were restructured and replaced by four new qualifications with new titles.  The content in all replacement qualifications is significantly different to the replaced qualifications.
