National Certificate in Plastics Processing Technology (Technical) (Level 2) with strands in Injection Moulding, Extrusion, Blow Moulding, Pressure Thermoforming, Vacuum Thermoforming, Blown Film Extrusion, Film Conversion, Injection Stretch-Blow Moulding, Rotational Moulding, Film Slitting, and Expanded Polystyrene Moulding [Ref: 0394]

The Plastics and Materials Processing Industry Training Organisation has republished the qualification listed above to update the transition arrangements in the version published in September 2010.

Date version republished                                                                  December 2010

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2015.

Reason for the republication

The Plastics and Materials Processing Industry Training Organisation republished this qualification in order to include an exemption that would facilitate the transfer of existing achievement from a previous version of an expiring qualification to this National Certificate.  The expiring qualification was formerly a prerequisite for this qualification, and its critical components were included in the strands of version 8 of this National Certificate.

Main changes resulting from the republication

This qualification was republished to add an exemption from standard 23129 for candidates holding credit for standard 272.  The exemption was required so that candidates could transfer existing achievement from version 5 of the expiring National Certificate in Plastics Processing Technology (Technical) (Level 1) with strands [Ref: 0260] to the National Certificate in Plastics Processing Technology (Technical) (Level 2) with strands [Ref: 0394].

Changes to structure and content

·      An exemption for standard 23129 was added for candidates holding credit for standard 272 and the transition arrangements were updated.

·      There were no changes to structure and content.

·      The version number of the qualification remains the same.

Transition

All existing candidates may complete version 7 of this qualification or transfer their existing achievements to version 8.  The last date for assessments to take place for version 7 of this qualification is 31 December 2012.

People currently working towards version 6, or who have existing achievement from version 5, of the National Certificate in Plastics Processing Technology (Technical) (Level 1) with strands [Ref: 0260] may also transfer applicable existing achievements to version 8 of this qualification.  The last date for assessments to take place for version 5 of the National Certificate in Plastics Processing Technology (Technical) (Level 1) with strands [Ref: 0260] was December 2009.  The last date for assessments to take place for version 6 of the National Certificate in Plastics Processing Technology (Technical) (Level 1) with strands [Ref: 0260] is 31 December 2011.

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards - see table below.
