The Communications and Media Industry Training Organisation (CMITO) has completed the review of the above qualifications.

 

Replacement qualification

 

National Certificate in Printing (Printing - Reel-Fed) (Level 3) [Ref: 1609]

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2015.

 

Summary of review and consultation process

 

Consultation meetings were held between industry representatives from the Reel-fed and Sheet-fed printing sectors, and members of CMITO, to discuss the changes required to the qualifications.

 

As part of this review, the National Certificate in Printing (Printing - Sheet-Fed: Letterpress) (Level 3) [Ref: 0040] and the National Certificate in Printing (Printing - Sheet-Fed: Small Offset) (Level 3) [Ref: 0042] were designated expiring because are they are no longer required by industry.

 

The requirements of the National Certificate in Printing (Printing - Sheet-Fed: Offset) (Level 3) [Ref: 0043] were updated.

 

The National Certificate in Printing (Production Support) (Level 2) with strands in Sheet-fed Offset, Reel-fed Printing, Screen Printing, and Dry Offset [Ref: 0593] was updated as a result of the recent review of unit standards in the Printing - Reel-Fed and Printing Sheet-Fed domains; and two additional strands were added.

 

The National Certificate in Printing (Printing - Reel-Fed) (Level 3) with strands in Offset, Letterpress, Flexographic, and Gravure [Ref: 0663] was replaced by a new 'unstranded' qualification: National Certificate in Printing (Printing - Reel-Fed) (Level 3) [Ref: 1609].

Changes to structure and content

·            Standards 3710 and 3711 were replaced by standard 26318, and standard 3713 was replaced by standard 26319.

·            Standard 3643 was replaced by standard 26323.

·            Standard 20424 was replaced by standard 26321.

·            Standard 2281 was added.

·            The credit total of the qualification increased from 117 to 147.

 

Transition

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in training programmes leading to the award of version 5 of the qualification.  Versions 1, 2 and 3 are no longer achievable, and the last for assessment of those versions was December 2009.  People working towards version 4 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to version 5 of the qualification.  The last date for assessment against the requirements of version 4 is 31 December 2015.

 

This qualification contains standards that replaced earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.

Changes to structure and content

·      The Direct Mail Production and Customer Service strands were added to the qualification; and the title of the qualification was updated to reflect the addition of these strands.

·      The credit total range for the qualification changed from 40-42 to 40-46.

·      Standard 26321 replaced standard 20424 in the Compulsory section of the Sheet‑fed Offset Strand.

·      The elective section of the Reel-fed Printing Strand was restructured.  Set A and Set B were replaced by standards in the Reel-fed Printing Compulsory, and the balance was renamed as an elective.

·      Standard 26311 in the Reel-fed Printing Compulsory replaced standard 2262 from Set A and standard 2263 from Set B.

·      Standard 26314 in the Reel-fed Printing Compulsory replaced standard 16523 from Set A and standard 16524 from Set B.

·      Standard 26315 in the Reel-fed Printing Compulsory replaced standard 20667.

·      The title of unit standard 10920 was updated.

·      The credit value of unit standard 16522 changed from 2 to 3.

 

Transition

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in training programmes leading to the award of this version of the qualification.  People currently enrolled in training programmes leading to versions 10 or 11 may either complete those versions, or transfer to this version under the guidance of the Communications and Media Industry Training Organisation (CMITO).

 

Last date for assessment against the requirements of version 10 is 31 December 2014 and version 11 is 31 December 2015.

 

This qualification contains standards that replace or are substitutes for earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement or substitute standards - see table below.

Differences between the new and replaced qualifications

·       The replacement qualification consists of a Compulsory section and does not include strands.

·       The Compulsory section of the replacement qualification includes standards 340, 341, 2281, 16512, 16513, 16522, 16526, and 20058 from the Compulsory section of the replaced qualification.

·       The Compulsory section of the replacement qualification also includes the replacement standards for expiring standards 2258, 2259, 2262, 2263, 2272, 16514, 16515, 16516, 16517, and 20667, which were in the compulsory and elective sections of the replaced qualification.  Exemptions are included in the replacement qualification for all of the replaced standards to provide portability of credit so that candidates that have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for their replacement standards in the replacement qualification.

 

Transition

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to the replacement qualification.  People enrolled in programmes leading to the award of the replaced qualification may either complete that qualification, or transfer to the new qualification under the guidance of the CMITO.

 

The last date for assessment against the requirements of the replaced qualification is December 2014.

 

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards - see table below.
