Summary
The unit standards have been reviewed as part of the MQS review cycle, to ensure that the standards are fit for purpose and the outcomes are achievable, manageable, coherent, assessable and consistent with valid assessment practices.
The Whakaruruhau felt that because the unit standards had no reported usage they needed to be amended so they were more relevant. The Whakaruruhau recommended that the unit standards be designated category C expiring, to be replaced by two new unit standards.
In reviewing the unit standards, the Whakaruruhau noted that they refer to Māori concepts and practices relating to dying and death, with specific reference to tūpāpaku, mate, and other aspects of death. The Whakaruruhau, therefore, felt that the new standards should be placed in the new subfield Te Ara Nunumi - Bereavement Pathways Māori, in the Te Ara Nunumi - Ā-Wairua domain.
Main changes
· Unit standards 16154 and 16202 were replaced by two new unit standards in the Te Ara Nunumi - Ā-Wairua domain.
Category C unit standards will expire at the end of December 2012
