Skills Active Aotearoa Limited has completed the revision and rollover of the unit standards listed above, following the change of standard setting responsibility from Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation (ATTTO).

Date new versions published                                                          February 2010

Planned review date                                                                           December 2011

Summary

The sea kayaking unit standards were originally the gazetted responsibility of Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation (now Skills Active Aotearoa Limited).  They were transferred to ATTTO at the request of the Sea Kayak Operators Association of NZ (Inc) in 2003.  The industry has now recognised that there is considerable overlap of skills between sea kayaking and flat water kayaking and their advice contributes to both disciplines, and approved the transfer of the standards back to Skills Active Aotearoa Limited.

Main changes

·      The unit standards were revised and reclassified.

·      Special notes on Minimum Assessor Requirements (MARs) were removed.

·      References to Quality Tourism Standards were removed from the special notes.

·      Minor editorial amendments were made.
