Plastics and Materials Processing Industry Training Organisation Incorporated (PaMPITO) has completed the review of the qualifications listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          February 2010

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.

Summary of review and consultation process

PaMPITO reviewed and repackaged these qualifications in conjunction with industry representatives and qualifications experts in 2009.  These reviewed qualifications seek to integrate industry qualifications vertically (within a set of like qualifications) and horizontally (between sets of industry specific qualifications).  PaMPITO has traditionally followed a non-integrated and linear model of qualifications.

PaMPITO met with industry representatives throughout June-October 2009 to discuss integration concepts and ultimately to confirm the new repackaged structure.  PaMPITO and industry representatives believe this new approach to traditional qualifications will enhance the uptake and completion of qualifications.  Training agreements will be entered into by industry upon the registration of the reviewed qualifications by NZQA.

Main changes resulting from the review

All prerequisites have been removed.  It will no longer be necessary for a trainee to complete a preceding level qualification to enter the subsequent level qualification.  For example, if a candidate wished to enter the National Certificate in Glass Container Manufacturing (Level 2), he/she would no longer be required to have completed the Level 1 qualification, and so on for the subsequent levels.

In addition there are qualification specific amendments that have been made and outlined below.

Changes to structure and content

·         Standards 497, 3503, 9707 and 19506 are no longer listed in the compulsory section of the qualification.  These standards continue to form part of the qualification within their designated domains in the elective section.

·         The elective section consists of specified subfields and domains rather than a range of standards.  All standards previously listed are included within those classifications.

·         The purpose statement has been updated as the qualification is no longer a prerequisite for Ref: 1359.

There are no transition consequences arising from these changes.
