The ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualification listed above.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

The review was conducted the Offender Management Consultation Group and reflected several years of training, assessment, and industry experience.  It also took into account the anticipated future skill requirements of the industry.  The Consultation Group reconsidered the review decision in June 2006 which had decided that planning and coordinating emergency responses was not required by the industry.  As a result they redeveloped the expired unit standard 14621.  It has been registered as Unit 25008, Plan and coordinate emergency responses in a prison and it has been included in this version of the qualification.

Changes to structure and content

·        standards 8499, 2785, 16612, 23397, and 25008 were added

·        standards 112, 2784, 8493, 8494, 9676, 9703, and 17498 were removed

·        standard 7447 has been replaced by 11646

·        the credit total decreased from 99 to 97.

 

Transition

 

Trainees may either complete the requirements of versions 1 of the qualification or transfer to version 2.

 

Last date for assessments to take place for version 1 is December 2010.

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to version 2 of the qualification.

 

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards - see table below.

Version 1

 

Version 1 included standard 9676, which expired in December 2008, and whose replacement standard 21335 was not included in version 2; and standard 17498, which expired in December 2009, and whose replacement standard 21336 was also not included in version 2.  Reverse transition arrangements for expired standards 9676 and 17498 have been included to avoid disadvantaging candidates who have already completed the majority of version 1 and would be disadvantaged by transferring to version 2.

This transition has been included to ensure that all candidates currently enrolled in version 1 of this qualification are able to complete the requirements of that version if they wish to.  Candidates must complete standards 21335 and 21336 by 31 December 2010 or transfer to version 2 of the qualification.

 

It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this review, and the above arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition.  However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation at the address below.
