Revision of Gas Network Operations qualifications

 

National Certificate in Gas Network Operations (Leakage Control) (Level 3) [Ref: 0400]

National Certificate in Gas Network Operations (Level 3) with optional strands in Operations and Maintenance; and Field Auditing [Ref: 1328]

 

The NZ Extractive Industries Training Organisation (EXITO) has revised the qualifications listed above.

 

Date new versions published                                                          July 2010

 

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2013.

 

Reason for the revision

 

The qualifications were updated to take account of changes made to standards in the Gas Network Construction, Petrochemical Cathodic Protection, and Petrochemical Product Transmission and Transfer reviews.

 

Main changes resulting from the revision

 

·      Reviewed standards, credit tables, special notes, transition arrangements, prerequisite and pathways diagrams were updated.

Changes to structure and content

·      expiring compulsory standard 10985 was replaced by standard 25608;

·      standard 25610 was added to the compulsory section as it is recommended for entry to standard 10980;

·      standard 25611 was added to the compulsory section as it is prerequisite for entry to standard 25608;

·      classifications, titles, levels and credits of reviewed standards were updated;

·      total credits increased from 97 to 114; and

·      the prerequisite and pathways diagrams were updated.

 

Transition

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to the new version of the qualification.

 

People working towards version 5 or 6 of the qualification may complete the requirements of that version or transfer to version 7.  The last date for assessments to take place for versions 5 or 6 is December 2012.  People currently working toward version 3 or 4 of the qualification may either complete the requirements for that version by December 2010 or transfer existing credits to version 7.

 

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards - see table below.

·      classifications, titles, levels, and credits of reviewed standards were updated;

·      credits for the Operations and Maintenance Optional Strand increased from 72 to 89; and

·      the prerequisite and pathways diagrams were updated.

 

Transition

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to the new version of the qualification.

 

People working towards version 1 of the qualification may complete the requirements of that version or transfer to this version.  The last date for assessments to take place for version 1 is December 2012.  People currently working towards either the National Certificate in Gas Network Operations (Operations and Maintenance) (Level 3) [Ref: 0885] or the National Certificate in Gas Network Operations (Gas Pressure Control) [Ref: 1021] may either complete the requirements for that qualification by 31 December 2010 or transfer existing credits to version 2 of this qualification.
