The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2015.

Summary of review and consultation process

A qualifications review was carried out concurrently with a unit standard review in the Pork Production subfield.  Changes were made to existing qualifications and new qualifications were developed to reflect changes in roleholder requirements.

Consultation meetings for both unit standards and qualifications were held with pork industry representatives during May and June 2009.  Representatives from both indoor and outdoor farms, North and South Island farms, the Pork Industry Board, and the Agriculture ITO field staff attended.  Representatives were given the opportunity to discuss the current qualifications and offer any feedback on the currency and suitability of their content.

Initial discussions focused on the current status of the industry sector, any changes which had occurred since the last review which impacted on training, and the future direction of the industry.  Roleholders and associated skills and knowledge were identified for each industry sector.  These roleholder summaries were used as the basis for the draft qualifications.  Feedback received from industry, moderators, field staff, and training providers since the last review was also considered by the panel as part of the review process.

Final qualification drafts were placed on the Agriculture ITO website and all stakeholders including pork farmers, industry sector organisations, training providers, and other ITOs were notified of the opportunity to provide feedback.

This further feedback was considered by the review panel, and the qualifications were updated accordingly.  The final qualifications were then endorsed by the Pork Industry Committee.

Main changes resulting from the review

·         Qualifications [Ref: 0097] and [Ref: 0098] have each been split into two new qualifications to reflect the requirements of different roleholders and industry needs for clear training pathways.

·         New qualification [Ref: 1563] was developed to provide a pathway for people who wish to specialise in advanced pork husbandry and technical skills.

·         New qualification [Ref: 1565] was developed to provide a progression for people who manage pork production units and who wish to develop higher level skills in stock and business management.
