The Building Service Contractors Industry Training Organisation (BSCITO) has reviewed the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published March 2010
Planned review date December 2015
Summary of review and consultation process
BSCITO conducted this review as a result of changes in legislation, regulations, and codes of practice for the pest control industry. Industry assessors, operations managers and technicians, and providers were consulted to determine the potential impact of the legislative changes on the unit standards.
Legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and industry practice requirements were all updated to meet current industry needs. In addition, it was agreed to include further prerequisites in standard 3263. The consultation group felt that having just first aid unit standards 6401 and 6402 was not sufficient prerequisite health and safety knowledge for a unit standard dealing with fumigates.
Also, an audit of unit standard 22893 had been carried out prior to the review and the results were discussed with the group. The audit had revealed that as Argentine Ants were not endemic to New Zealand having it as a compulsory component of the unit standard meant that some trainees could not complete their assessment. The consultation group accepted the recommendation to make Argentine Ants elective.
Editorial and formatting changes have also been made to the standards.
