Revision of Water Industry qualification

National Certificate in Water Reticulation (Service Person) (Level 3) with strands in Water, and Wastewater [Ref: 0962]

The Agriculture Industry Organisation has revised the qualification listed above.

Date new version published                                                             May 2010

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2011.

Reason for the revision

This revision was carried out due to the expiry of standards in the compulsory section and in the Water strand of this qualification.  In order to allow trainees currently enrolled to complete their training, expiring standards were replaced.  The opportunity was also taken to update standards that had been recently reviewed.  Consultation took place with field staff, training provider and other Industry Training Organisations.  This qualification will undergo full review alongside the National Certificate in Water Reticulation (Supervisor) (Level 4) with strands in Water, and Wastewater [Ref: 1259] later this year.

Main changes resulting from the revision

Expiring standards in the compulsory section and strands were replaced; and recently reviewed standards were updated.

Changes to structure and content

·           Expiring standard 6454 was removed from the qualification as it was classified as Category D and has no direct replacement.

·           Expiring standards 19202, 19203, 19206 and 19208 were replaced by standards 24918 and 24919, 24920, 24921 and 24922.

·           Changes in credit values and titles for standards 497, 6475, 19200, 19201, 19204, 19207, 19209 and 19212 as a result of earlier reviews were incorporated into this qualification.

·           The New Zealand Standard Classification of Education (NZSCED) has been changed

-               From 039901 (Engineering and Related Technologies/Other Engineering and Related Technologies/Environmental Engineering)

-               To 030907 (Engineering and Related Technologies > Civil Engineering > Water and Sanitary Engineering).

·           Total credits changed from 87-89 to 105-107 depending on strand.

Transition

As previous versions of this qualification contain standards expiring in December 2010, people currently working towards versions 1 to 4 of this qualification must complete the requirements of their existing version by December 2010 or transfer their results to the current version of the qualification.  The last date of entry into previous versions of this qualification is on registration of version 5.  The last date for assessments to take place for previous versions is December 2010.

New programmes or courses leading to the award of version 5 can commence on registration.  However, as noted above this qualification will undergo a full review starting in the second half of 2010 and any prospective trainees are strongly encouraged to discuss the timing of their enrolment with their training provider or Industry Training Organisation in order to ensure the least amount of disruption to their training programme.

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards - see table below.
