Planned review date                                                                           December 2014

Summary of review and consultation process

These unit standards were reviewed to ensure alignment with current industry practice and requirementsAs part of this review it was acknowledged that a number of new unit standards were required to meet the needs of industry in the boatbuilding area.

Feedback from assessors, moderators and trainees was considered by the boatbuilding advisory group in the review of the existing standards and during development of new unit standards.  Consultation was also undertaken with other Industry Training Organisations operating in the wider Marine industry.

Unit standards 9913 and 9926 had not been reviewed since they were written yet many changes had occurred in the industry.

Main changes resulting from the review

Unit standard 9913 content was adjusted to align the unit standard and resources with the target audience who are people first beginning in the marine industry.  This led to a change in level and credits.  The title was changed to align with the marine terminology used for other recently registered BITO standards.

A number of small changes to the unit standard were required to address industry changes, to simplify it and make it more relevant.  The element covering physical operation of boats at sea was removed as it was not relevant to the candidates and was not in synergy with the rest of the unit standard content.  The reference text was also removed in accordance with the removal of the nautical boat operation aspects.

Unit standard 9926 had never been assessed against and no longer met the needs of industry.  Therefore unit standard 9926 has been designated expiring.  Much of its content is included in new unit standards 26083, 26084, 26085, 26086, 26098 and 26100.

27 new unit standards have been developed.

The unit standard categorised as category D will expire at the end of December 2010.
