Review of Raceclub Management standards

The NZ Equine Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Summary

The unit standards were reviewed as they had not been used since registration in 1999 and the domain they are in was designated expiring (lapsing) in May 2009. Consultation with industry was carried out to determine if changes were required to ensure they were fit for purpose and therefore encourage uptake, or whether the equine industry specific skills were no longer required. It was decided that the unit standards be designated expiring with no replacements as they are no longer required by industry.

Main changes

· Unit standards 16227 and 16228 were designated expiring and will not be replaced as the equine industry specific skills were no longer required in this format by industry. The skills covered by generic management unit standards were considered to be more appropriate.

· The domain Raceclub Management was designated expiring in May 2009 as it was no longer required by industry. Raceclub management activities are can be covered by existing generic management unit standards and qualifications.

Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2010.

Revision of Racing Administration unit standards

Summary

Unit standards 25846-25850 were revised in July 2010 as a result of recent changes made to the classification they were originally registered under. There had been a restructure of the NZ Racing Board who are the users of the unit standards. The nomenclature for their business units had implications for the naming of the classifications and it was found the current domain names were not appropriate. The term raceday refers to a business unit with the NZ Racing Board, the term racing administration refers to the administrative duties associated with all aspects of racing carried out at head office and not on the race course, and the term race day refers to the day of the races.

The unit standards were endorsed jointly by the Board of the Equine ITO and the NZ Racing Board unit standard development panel.

Main changes

· Unit standards 25846, 25847, 25849, and 25850 were reclassified from the Racing Administration domain to the Racing Operations domain.

· Unit standard 25848 was reclassified from the Racing Administration domain to the Equine Industry domain as it is a better fit.

· The title of unit standard 25849 was amended to match the domain.

· The titles of unit standards 25846 and 25850 were changed to remove the reference to totalisator agency betting (TAB) as TAB is considered by the NZ Racing Board to be a brand name and not an abbreviation.

· The level for unit standard 25843 was changed from 4 to 3 to better reflect the complexity of outcomes in the unit standard.
