The Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          November 2010

Planned review date                                                                           December 2015

Summary

Feedback recorded over 2010 from worksites, providers, assessors and moderators led to the review of these unit standards.  The review also addressed the need to clearly distinguish between unit standards 23411, intended for commercial forestry use, and 6917, intended to be an entry level standard for use in multiple industries.  FITEC has investigated all feedback and consulted with internal and external industry subject matter experts and accredited providers on proposed changes.  All proposed changes have been endorsed by these stakeholders.

Main changes

·      Outcomes, evidence requirements and ranges have been amended in each unit standard to clarify meaning, improve relevance and assessability, and ensure consistency of assessment.

·      The titles of unit standards 23411 and 6917 have been changed to reflect skills covered.

·      The level of unit standard 6917 has decreased from 3 to 2 and the credit value has increased from 5 to 8.  The increase in credit value is to better reflect the amount of learning required for candidates with no prior skills or knowledge in chainsaw use to become fully competent.
