The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2016.

Summary of review and consultation process

The qualification has been reviewed following extensive review of the unit standards in the Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) domain.

Consultation from November 2008 included industry experts, assessors, training provider and HVAC experts, and their feedback was incorporated in the qualification.

A group of industry experts helped to fine tune the qualification, which was endorsed by the Refrigeration, Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning Sector Advisory Group in November 2009.

Main changes resulting from the review

Standards were updated and replaced to meet current industry requirements, and the standards specified in the Elective were replaced by classifications from which candidates must select standards up to a minimum of 20 credits.

For people completing version 4, a number of compulsory standards will expire on 31 December 2010, 31 December 2012, or 31 December 2014, although the last date of assessment for version 4 is not until 31 December 2016.  The majority of the expiring standards are completed in the first and second years of training and, therefore, should be completed prior to their expiry dates.  Assessment against standards 2414, 2416, and 2417 must be completed before 31 December 2014.  Reverse transition has been included for the other expiring standards to ensure that no candidates are disadvantaged.

Version 4 of this qualification contained standards that have been replaced or substituted by other standards.  For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the replacement standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the expiring standards - see table below.
