Summary of review and consultation process
This review was undertaken in response to feedback from stakeholders, and the desire to keep the qualification current with the changes made to other qualifications and relevant unit standards.
The stakeholders were consulted via the Qualifications Advisory Committee (QAC), which consisted of representatives from subsectors of the industry, including: Hairdressing departments of Industry Training Providers, private hairdressing providers, industry employers, industry employees, and HITO.
Members of the QAC were required to consult with the wider industry, share questions from the QAC and report gathered feedback to the QAC on a regular basis.
Main changes resulting from the review
Expiring standards were removed, and changes resulting from reviews of Hairdressing and other unit standards were incorporated into the qualification.

Changes to structure and content
· The following standards were updated to incorporate changes made at review: 1987, 1988, 4098, 8495, 9680, 11098, 11281, 11551, 11552 and 18203.
· Expiring standards 1994 and 8494 were removed from the Salon Management Strand.
· The classification of standards 1987, 8495 and 8496 were updated to Subfield: Business Operations and Development; Domain: People Development and Coordination.
· The Business subfields and domains were updated in the Salon Management Strand Elective.
· The number of Level 5 credits required for the Assessment of Hairdressing Strand Elective was increased from 7 to 10.
· The number of Level 5 credits required for the Tutoring in Hairdressing Strand Elective was increased from 15 to 20.
· The number of Level 5 credits required for the Salon Management Strand Elective was increased from 5 to 25.
Transition
People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of version 2 of this qualification may either complete that version or transfer to version 3. The last date for assessment of version 2 is 31 December 2011.
This qualification contains classifications that replace earlier classifications. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for standards in the lapsed classifications may continue to use those credits to meet the qualification requirements.

Reverse Transition
This version of the qualification includes standards that have been replaced. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for replacement standards are exempt from the requirement to gain the replaced standards listed in this qualification.
