Review of Governance of Māori Authorities qualification

NZQA Māori Qualifications Services (MQS) has completed the review of the qualification listed above.

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2016.

 

Summary of review and consultation process

 

This qualifications was reviewed as part of the MQS review cycle.  Although this qualification has not yet been awarded, the NZQA Māori Economic Development Forum, along with the Governance of Māori Authorities Whakaruruhau, are supporting this review as they see this as an area with a huge potential for development.  MQS is currently developing a suite of governance qualifications from Level 3 to 6.

 

Consultation was undertaken with the Governance of Māori Authorities Whakaruruhau and an accredited provider proposing to deliver the qualification.  All changes made to the qualification were endorsed by the Whakaruruhau and the provider throughout 2010 during hui, email and telephone communication.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

The title was updated to include the Level of the qualification and the content of the qualification was updated.

Changes to structure and content

·         Title was updated to include the level of the qualification.

·         Credit value for the qualification has decreased from 48 to 44 credits.

·         Standard 26425 has replaced standard 21658.

·         Standard 21659 is no longer listed in the qualification.

·         Titles, levels and credits of the standards in the qualification were updated as a result of the recent review.

 

Transition

 

This qualification contains a standard that replaced an earlier standard.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standard are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standard - see table below.

People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of version 1 of the qualification may complete that version before December 2012, or transfer to version 2 of the qualification.
