The NZ Extractive Industries Training Organisation (EXITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above. The unit standard shown in bold has been revised and rolled over.
Date new versions published April 2011
Planned review date (reviewed standards) December 2015
Planned review date (revised and rolled over standard) December 2014
Summary
These unit standards all relate to heavy machinery at extractives sites, and so were reviewed together as a subset of the Surface Extraction domain.
Members of EXITO's Extractives Industry Advisory Group (IAG) as representatives of, and in consultation with, their industry networks reviewed the content of the standards and made changes to ensure they are fit for purpose and reflect current industry best practice. Following industry consultation of the proposed changes, EXITO's Extractives Sector Advisory Group endorsed these standards and the review process.
In addition, as InfraTrain also has standards covering heavy machinery (in civil construction contexts), a representative from that SSB was also involved in this review. InfraTrain has endorsed the registration of these standards.
Unit standard 22344 relates to the use of recovery equipment, and has only had low usage since its registration. The IAG decided to revise and roll over this standard so that more research and development could take place in to industry's requirements for recovery operations involving heavy machinery.
Main changes
· Titles, explanatory notes, outcomes, evidence requirements, terminology, levels and credits of the reviewed standards were amended as necessary to ensure the reviewed standards are fit for purpose.
· Entry information in the reviewed standards was updated and amended from ‘critical health and safety prerequisites' to ‘recommended skills and knowledge'.
· Unit standard 22343 was designated as expiring.
· Unit standards 27238-27242 were developed.
· The explanatory notes of unit standard 22344 were updated to ensure they are current.
· Last date of assessment for superseded versions of the unit standards is 31 December 2012.
The category D unit standard will expire at the end of December 2012
