Summary
This review was undertaken in response to feedback from stakeholders indicating that the standards included in the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Nail Technology) (Level 4) [Ref: 1047] were no longer fit for purpose.
During the review process the stakeholders were consulted via the Beauty Advisory Group (BAG), which consisted of representatives from subsectors of the industry, including: employers, employees, Institutes of Technical Polytechnics and Private Training Enterprises, and product companies. Members of the BAG were required to consult with the wider industry, share questions from the BAG and report gathered feedback to the BAG on a regular basis. Fitness for purpose of these unit standards was confirmed by sending out to industry and collating and applying feedback at several stages of the consultation process.
Unit 19589, Perform nail augmentation services as an independent beauty services operator has been rewritten, and Unit 10393, Perform a manicure and/or pedicure service as an independent beauty services operator has been replaced by two new standards. This change was required by the industry in order to more clearly define the relevant scope of knowledge and practical skills and, therefore, make the standards easier to assess.
Main changes
· Standard 10393 replaced by two new standards.
· Title, level, explanatory notes, evidence requirements and range statements amended in standard 19589 to reflect industry practices and requirements.
· Eight new standards developed.
The category C unit standard will expire at the end of December 2012
