The NZQA Maori Qualifications Services has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published August 2011
Summary
The unit standards were reviewed as part of the MQS planned review cycle, to ensure they are current, clear, logical, and fit for purpose.
The Tikanga Whakaruruhau met in March 2011, with additional consultation through extensive phone, email and face to face discussion with high use providers in the month of April, and considered:
· the currency of the unit standards
· the accuracy and cultural appropriateness of the content of the unit standards
· whether the levels and credit values correspond to the outcome of the standards
· me whai i te whakaaro Māori mō te hunga e hauā ana. Ehara i te mea he tikanga anō mō ēnei tūmomo tāngata.
The Whakaruruhau and consultation networks included representation from secondary schools, wharekura, tertiary education organisations. Consultation with internal and external stakeholders raised no objections to the proposed changes. The review outcomes were endorsed by all those consulted.
Main changes
All unit standards have been designated expiring and will not be replaced due to:
· low usage and content that is no longer fit for purpose
· different world views of the 'supported learning context' specifically questioning the cultural appropriateness of assessing the concept of hauā
· duplication issues with standards 27106 and 27108 in the Tikanga subfield.
Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2013.
