The NZ Extractive Industries Training Organisation (EXITO) has completed the revision of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          August 2011

Planned review date                                                                           December 2013

Summary

The EXITO Protective Coatings Sector Advisory Group (PCSAG) required unit standards 21164 and 21166 to be revised to incorporate critical workplace safety requirements related to the safe use of jigging and fettling tools.

This is necessary because unit standards 2395 and 2396 are barriers to the completion of the National Certificate in Hot Dip Galvanizing (Introductory Skills) (Level 2) [Ref: 1174] because they do not ensure that candidates for the qualification are competent in using tools relevant to the hot dip galvanizing skills of jigging and fettling.  It is proposed to remove unit standards 2395 and 2396 from the qualification when appropriate assessment requirements have been included in the revised versions of unit standards 21164 and 21166.

The proposed changes were distributed to hot dip galvanizing industry advisors for feedback and the final drafts were confirmed as fit for purpose by key industry advisors and assessors.

Main changes

·      Explanatory notes were updated and legislation not directly relevant to the performance of the outcomes of the standard was removed

·      Definitions were added to clarify assessment

·      For standard 21164, a new outcome statement was added to include critical tool safety requirements, one evidence requirement moved from Outcome 2 to Outcome 1, and subsequently the outcome statements, title and purpose statement were updated, and the outcomes and evidence requirements were renumbered.  Minor changes were made to clarify assessment requirements

·      Credit value for standard 21164 increased from 3 to 6 to reflect the additional outcome and evidence requirements

·      For standard 21166, critical tool safety requirements were added to Outcome 2 and evidence requirements were renumbered.

Impact on registered qualifications

Key to type of impact

Affected

The qualification lists a reviewed classification (domain or subfield) in an elective set

The qualification lists a standard that has changes to level or credits

The qualification lists a C or D category standard

Not materially affected

The qualification lists a standard that has a new title

The qualification lists a standard that has a new classification

The following EXITO qualification is impacted by the outcome of this revision and will be updated when revised in 2011.  The standard that generated the status Affected is listed in bold.
