The next qualification review is planned to take place as part of the mandatory review for the entire sector in 2012.

Summary of review and consultation process

During the review, feedback was sought from representatives of interest groups such as employers, unions, training organisations, and assessors.  The executive of Scaffolding, Rigging and Industrial Rope Access Industries Training Incorporated (SRIIT), which includes representatives of these and other groups (such as candidates and wider industry), also consulted their constituencies about the review.

Early within the process it was recognised that the recent review of scaffolding standards which had resulted in the replacement of unit standards 4204 - 4211 by a new series of unit standards, provided an opportunity to improve existing qualifications.  After real time and asynchronous dialogue the industry agreed to continue the de-stranding process of the previous six years and utilise a number of the new unit standards to create new qualifications in advanced and suspended scaffolding to replace the current National Certificate in Scaffolding (Level 4) with strands in Advanced Scaffolding, and Suspended Scaffolding [Ref: 0110]. This continues the creation of more explicit education pathways and progression within the sector and also reflects industry responses to changes in technology.

During that process the industry became aware that unit standard 26606 had mistakenly been left out of the recently registered National Certificate in Intermediate Scaffolding (Level 4) [Ref: 1463].  This standard addressed the place of cantilevers in spurred scaffolding and it was decided to incorporate this body of knowledge into the qualification through revision.
