Maintenance of Furniture qualification

 

National Certificate in Furniture (Level 2) with strands in Introductory Furniture Finishing Skills, Introductory Furniture Making Skills, and Introductory Upholstery Skills [Ref: 1502]

 

The Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) has updated the content of the qualification listed above that was registered in July 2009.

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.

 

Reason for maintenance

 

The qualification required updating to take account of changes resulting from the review of unit standards by another standard setting body.

 

Main changes resulting from the maintenance

 

Expiring standards were removed and replaced, and exemptions were included where appropriate.  Changes were made to the core elective requirements to reflect the removal of standards.

 

Changes to structure and content

·         Expiring first aid standards 6400, 6401, and 6402 were replaced by standards 26551 and 26552.

·         Expiring standard 7480 was removed from the qualification.

·         Credit value for standard 4249 was updated (from 3 to 4 credits).

·         Exemptions were added for the expiring first aid standards.

 

Transition

 

Although some exemptions have been added, there are no transition implications resulting from the updating of this qualification.

 

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards - see table below.

It is anticipated that no existing trainees will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.  Any person who feels they have been disadvantaged by these transition arrangements should contact FITEC at the address below.  Appeals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
