Revision of Equine qualifications

 

National Certificate in Equine (Breeding) (Level 3) [Ref: 1542]

National Certificate in Equine (Stable Procedures) (Level 3) with strands in Harness Racing Stable Assistant, Sporthorse Stable Assistant, Thoroughbred Racing Stable Assistant, and Thoroughbred Racing Track Rider [Ref: 0654]

 

The NZ Equine Industry Training Organisation (Equine ITO) has revised the qualifications listed above.

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.

 

Reason for the revision

 

The qualifications were revised following submissions from industry sectors requesting greater flexibility and increased skills recognition.  The Equine ITO consulted with the appropriate sectors and determined that increasing the minimum credits required for the Elective section of Ref: 1542 and the Elective sections of the Harness Racing Stable Assistant and Thoroughbred Racing Stable Assistant strands of Ref: 0654 would address industry concerns.

 

Main changes resulting from the revision

 

Minimum credit requirements for the Elective section of Ref: 1542 and the Elective sections of the Harness Racing Stable Assistant and Thoroughbred Racing Stable Assistant strands of Ref: 0654 were increased.

Changes to structure and content

·      Minimum credit requirement for the Elective section was increased from 19 to 44 of which a minimum of 14 credits must be at Level 3.

·      Standards 1277, 1618, 1619, 1623, 1660, 6579, 9707, 19945, 20523, and 25443 were added to the Elective section.

·      Total credits increased from 75 to 100.

 

Transition

 

The start date for training programmes or courses for version 2 is on registration of the new version of qualification.  All candidates enrolled in version 1 will be transferred to version 2.  The last date for assessments to take place for version 1 is December 2014.

 

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards - see table below.

Changes to structure and content

·      Minimum credit requirement for the Elective section in the Harness Racing Stable Assistant Strand was increased from 7 to 12.

·      Total credits for the qualification with the Harness Racing Stable Assistant Strand increased from 95 to 100.

·      Minimum credit requirement for the Common Elective in the Thoroughbred Racing Stable Assistant Strand was increased from 16 to 21.

·      Total credits for the qualification with the Thoroughbred Racing Stable Assistant Strand increased from 95 to 100.

 

Transition

 

The start date for training programmes or courses for version 4 is on registration of the new version of the qualification.  There are no current enrolments in version 2 of the qualification.  All candidates enrolled in version 3 will be automatically transferred to version 4.  The last date for assessment to take place for versions 2 and 3 is December 2014.

 

This qualification contains standards for which another standard is acceptable to Equine ITO as a substitute.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the substitute standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the listed standards - see table below.

It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.  However, candidates who feel that the have been disadvantaged may appeal in the first instance to NZ Equine Industry Training Organisation at the address given below, which will consider any appeal on a case-by-case basis.
